Child browser for Android: settings worth checking

Search, allowed websites, browsing time and profiles: practical settings to check when helping a child explore the web with Renardeau.

Renardeau, a browser for curious children: explore, learn and grow.

A child browser should make it possible to search for information, return to a familiar website and understand what is allowed. Before handing it over, take time to prepare the profile together. These are the settings available in Renardeau and the limits to bear in mind.

Choose a search engine for the profile

Renardeau offers Qwant Junior or Brave Search in strict mode. Choose during setup, or change the setting in the parent area under the child’s search settings. Each profile can use a different engine. Filtered search helps exclude unwanted results, but cannot guarantee that every page is suitable for a child’s age.

Review allowed websites and blocking rules

Profile rules and protection lists complement the search engine. In the parent area, check active sources and their latest update. The domain-testing tool explains whether a domain would be allowed or blocked without opening it. Prepare a few useful bookmarks and explain how to ask for help when a website is refused. A limited exception for one domain is preferable to disabling an entire category to solve an isolated false positive.

Plan browsing time

Set a daily allowance and permitted time slots for the profile. Choose limits the child understands and review them together according to the purpose of a session: homework, curiosity or visiting a familiar website. These controls apply to Renardeau. Limiting other apps also requires the Android device’s supervision settings.

Keep profiles separate and protect parent settings

Each child keeps separate progress, bookmarks and settings. The free version includes one profile; Premium supports up to eight. A parent passcode protects sensitive changes. An optional child code only opens that child’s profile and does not grant access to parental settings. An encrypted family backup is also available from the parent area.

Share the discoveries

The educational planets combine short lessons with quizzes for ages 6–8 and 9–12. Daily challenges and profile accessories encourage learning; performing web searches does not earn points. A browser remains a tool for adult guidance. Talk about visited websites and what to do when unexpected content appears.
